Sons ARE a Heritage From the Lord

Paul came down this morning and informed me that he has learned something new.

“Oh, what’s that?” I asked as I tended some crepes I was making for breakfast.

“I learned that parents don’t like boys.”

“Really? Where did you learn that?”

“I was reading a book in bed (translation: looking at a library picture book) and it was about a very small family. They had only a mom, a dad, and a girl!”

Ah. Now I understood. To Paul that meant this family didn’t like boys. We talked about this a while, perhaps making some progress in understanding. At least he did remember that we have five boys, and love all of them, just as we love our four daughters.

Then Paul sat down on his stool at the counter to eat his breakfast. Urgh! There was his taco soup from last night! We are trying to teach him not to be a picky eater, so if he doesn’t eat his dinner, it will show up at breakfast the next day. (And at lunch, and so on, if necessary, until it is gone.) Crepes with yogurt are one of Paul’s favorite breakfasts, so he was particularly unhappy to be thwarted from them.

Looking at his bowl of taco soup Paul glumly said, “Now I KNOW that parents don’t like boys!”

Psalm 127: 3-5
Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth.
Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.

Ah, we had a bowl of split pea soup that once showed its "face" for four consecutive meals . I won't attribute it to anyone in particular.... Hope Paul realizes the reason the soup was there was because you DO love him. Thanks for being a good example!
