Never a Dull Moment

One thing about having a large family, there’s never a dull moment!

This weekend our oldest two were home for about 36 hours, and we had a great, though brief, visit. When you have children spread over a wide age range, you end up burning the candle on both ends of the day, staying up late to talk to the oldest ones, and rising early to care for little guys. As we hugged Andrew and Kara good-bye, we were sad realizing that we won’t probably see them for two months, but we also were imagining that life might settle down a bit with two fewer in our busy home. Or so we thought.

Just before dinner tonight Amanda (8) and Paul (4) were playing a chase game and somehow Amanda made contact with a chair, creating a large gash above one eye. Tim rushed her to the doctor, hoping he could stitch it up or maybe even glue it together, the method of choice when possible. When it was cleaned up it looked much worse than we’d originally thought, and our pediatrician said that she’d need a plastic surgeon. Apparently since the gash is through her eyebrow, if it is put together incorrectly she will look asymmetrical or have trouble opening her eyelid.

So the next stop was the office of the plastic surgeon, Dr. Wise, where she was stitched up in multiple layers due to the wound’s depth. Amanda later remarked that she thinks Dr. Wise is very appropriately named. Our dear little girl was a trooper throughout, and looks as beautiful as ever, with just the tiniest suture line running through her eyebrow.

The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps. (Proverbs 16:9)

Yes, indeed!

Amanda brought up something else today that helped her during the ordeal of the doctor having to actually cut a bit more before he began the repair work, and (the most painful part) getting anesthetic injected in several locations in the wound. She remembered that we had studied courage yesterday morning in our Bible time, looking at Scripture and talking about the bravery shown by George Washington and his men at Valley Forge. God's timing of even our conversations is amazing!

Please tell "Princess Amanda" that Mrs. Johnson is praying for her. Remind her of God's promises that we studied in class together and that He has a plan for each part of our life and that He will use it for good for those that love Him.
Blessings, Kim
