Back to (Home) School!

Schultüte

This year I'm determined to inject a bit more fun into our homeschool year so as to not let my duty-driven self completely run the show! So this morning my children found "Schultüte" awaiting them on the breakfast counter along with ABC muffins. (Apples, bananas, and chocolate chips.) And yes, this year I am down to just four students! How did that happen? Just two years ago we still had six in our homeschool!

Giving children, usually first graders, Schultüte stuffed with sweets and school supplies on the first day of school is a German custom. This tutorial provided visual inspiration, though I only roughly followed the plan.

I filled our schultute with a few edible treats and needed supplies. Somehow finding new pencils or a protractor in a cone was a bit more exciting than picking the same items out of our school supply stash. (OK, maybe it was the M&Ms.) I also chose verses for each child I want to be praying for each one throughout the year and put these on cards for the Schultüte. I'm thinking this is a tradition we'll want to continue.

II Peter 3: 18...but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him [be] the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Romans 15: 13  Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Colossians 2: 6,7  As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, [so] walk in Him, having been firmly rooted [and now] being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, [and] overflowing with gratitude.

Jude 24, 25 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy,  to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, [be] glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
